ABOUT US

PFLAG Norman is a non-profit organization that continues to provide advocacy, education, and support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and Two Spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) people, their parents, families, and allies. The name used to stand for Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. In 2014, however, the national organization decided to drop the acronym and keep the name to reflect decades of fully inclusive work in the community. See more about PFLAG national here.

PFLAG Norman was founded by members of the Norman community in 1995. One of those members was Kay Holiday; a prominent member of the community. In pursuit of supporting her son, not only did she support parents of the LGBTQ+ community, but she helped establish strong and long-lasting relationships with the Norman Police Department and Norman Public Schools. To this day, PFLAG Norman continues to train police academies and be involved in school meetings.

Our Mission

To create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

Our chapter fulfills this mission by building on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQIA2S+ people and allies who support one another, and to educate ourselves and our communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value and affirm LGBTQIA2S+ people.

Our Vision

An equitable, inclusive world where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved.
