Children and adolescents who are LGBTQ+ and/or gender expansive account for more than 73 million children in the United States and that number is steadily increasing. Compared to their majority peers, these children experience overall more adversity and trauma which can be unintentionally perpetuated by professionals who do not know or understand best practices with this population. Participants will learn from a moderated panel of LGBTQ+ people and/or their family members concepts of sexual identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression, as well as at least three strategies for culturally responsive interactions with LGBTQ+ children and their families. Participants will also be able to identify three reputable resources for helping LGBTQ+ people.
This panel will be moderated by Jimmy Widdifield with the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth. It will take place on Thursday, April 14th at 10:30am in the Hilton Garden Inn. The Conference is a multi-day event (April 13-15). More information to come soon.
