Statement on the Tulsa Race Massacre
PFLAG’s mission is to support, educate and be advocates for the LGBTQ+ community, their families and friends, including those that exist across the intersections of marginalized and at-risk communities. PFLAG strongly believes it is our moral obligation to continue to fight injustice rooted in racism, homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia, and condemn hate crimes and hate threats against all people.
In keeping with its mission, PFLAG Norman stands in solidarity with the Black community of Tulsa’s Greenwood district for the victims, survivors, descendants and the broader community of the Tulsa Race Massacre that took place in 1921. We support the justice being sought for all survivors and their descendants.
Furthermore, PFLAG supports education of events leading to the Tulsa Race Massacre as well as the legacy of that tragic event. PFLAG condemns suppression of basic human rights, which include voting rights, land ownership, education, LGBTQ+ equality, labor rights and more. Equality can only be achieved when we all stand up for equal rights for all people.
